The Raleigh Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is a chartered chapter of the National ASG organization, and is the largest chapter
in North Carolina, with about 250 members. The Chapter was chartered in 1993 and has grown steadily ever since then.
The Raleigh
Chapter of the American Sewing Guild (ASG) is divided into 9 neighborhood groups spread throughout the Triangle Area and Eastern North
Carolina. The Raleigh ASG Chapter welcomes you to attend a NG meeting near you. Meeting topics will vary monthly from group to group.
Members can attend as many NG meetings as they like each month. The Raleigh ASG NG
meetings are:,Cary Evening, Couture Sewing,
North Raleigh Evening, Raleigh Day, Chapel Hill/Durham Day, Piedmont-Triad, Wilmington Day, Sewing Fashionistas (Wilmington)
and 'Down-easters' which meets in Washington. NC.
In keeping with the ASG’s mission statement – “Advancing Sewing as an Art and Life
Skill” – we sponsor several sewing events throughout the year.
Regular events include:
* Two 'Weekend
Stitch Camps at the Sea' – escape to Myrtle Beach with sewing friends for a fun filled weekend -
one in November,
and one in January
* Scheduled seminars and workshops by nationally and locally known speakers
* An annual
meeting
Our chapter programs are all planned by the
Chapter Advisory Board (CAB), with as much input as possible from chapter members.
Occasionally we conduct surveys to be sure our plans are meeting member interests, and we encourage members to submit requests and
suggestions to the CAB.
The Chapter Newsletter “Sew What’s New” is distributed by mail every other month to all chapter members
in addition to being posted on the ASG Headquarters website
www.asg.org. In 2012 we plan to start distributing the newsletter
via email so that members can get information in a more timely manner and so that they can see the letter in color.
The Neighborhood
Groups are the heart of the American Sewing Guild, and meet monthly to enjoy sewing programs and sharing of ideas. Membership
in the ASG entitles you to visit any Neighborhood Group throughout the USA.
Community Service is a part of NG activities where
members use their sewing skills to help those less fortunate.
Past Community Service projects have included:
* Sewing comfort
caps for cancer patients
* Sewing bibs for senior residents of nursing homes
* Sewing Bereavement Envelopes for Wake Medical Center
*
Sewing Layettes With Love for the Maternal Health Center
* Teaching sewing at a local girl's school
