With the New Year,  in 2009 we  have a NEW CAB, and another new Neighborhood Group.   

Joan C is our new President and continues as Neighborhood Group Coordinator.  Glenda Stenbuck is our new 1VP and Cathy Boyle our new 2nd VP.  Marilyn H. steps into the Secretary's position and Marilyn A. continues on as Treasurer.   Karin Mede continues on as Newsletters Editor, as does Debbie Bryda in the Events Coordinator position.  After our first CAB meeting January 18, we should have announcements for Publicity and Education.

Thank you to Lyn F. Roberta M, and Linda S.  for jobs well done during the past year!  We know that you have made it much easier for the new Cab members to assume the responsibilities you are passing on.

 

State Fair Winners

Congratulations to Shirley Deasy and Roberta Morgan. who won prizes for their creations at the 2008 States Fair.  If you were not able to get to the fair, you missed some beautiful creations.  Let's hope these winners are showing them off at their Neighborhood Groups.

 

ASG 2009 Creative Contest

ASG Headquarters, together with Simplicity Patterns has identified the patterns that will provide the basis for the 2009 Creative Contest.  Click here for a description of the patterns and a contest entry application.

This year’s contest will again feature award categories to encourage young sewers, expanded size ranges for the patterns, and special occasion dresses for both misses’ and little girls’ sizes.   The Simplicity patterns selected include:  Simplicity 2903, a casual top; Simplicity 2925, a sleeveless dress; Simplicity 2938, a jacket and pants;  Simplicity 2939, sporty top and shorts; Simplicity 2940, a lady's jacket; Simplicity 2958, a lady's suit; Simplicity 2977, mix and match skirt top and jacket; Simplicity 3588, a sweet young girls dress; Simplicity 3807 sundress for teens or young women.    These patterns are now available.

The Contest Categories are:

Entries must be postmarked not later than midnight Friday, May 1, 2009. Finalists will be notified by phone not later than Friday, May 22, 2009. Finalists’ garments must be postmarked not later than midnight Friday, May 30, 2008 and winners will be notified by phone not later than Friday, June 13, 2008.    The grand prize winner in each category (excluding Rising Star and Sewing Starlet) will receive a check for $500 plus a  Serger from Brother International Corporation.

ASG Headquarters has announced the community service project for 2009.  As a way for the ASG to say thank you to the host city for the 2009 National Conference, the creation of pillow cases for  Ronal McDonald House has been selected as the 2009 Community Service Project.

If you would like to submit member news and/or a sewing project photograph, please email an electronic copy to webmaster@asgraleigh.org or  US mail to ASG Raleigh Chapter, Attn: Webmaster at PO Box 90305, Raleigh, NC 27675.  Be sure to include your return address if you wish to have your photo returned. (The submitter must obtain permission from the photographer and participating models to display the photograph.) Please provide a short descriptions for the photograph.  Neighborhood group projects are also encouraged.
